The Balule Outreach Trust

Covid 19 Food Drive

A communique was sent in May to shareholders and authorised users regarding a fundraiser  for Sigagule Centre for Orphans and Vulnerable Children and Nourish Eco Village.

Unfortunately, with the current Covid 19 lockdown the much-needed drive to support education has take a back seat with the basic need for food becoming the focus.

An urgent appeal has been circulated to raise funds for the following:

  • Food parcels- a basic food pack of:
    •  Mealie Meal, beans, salt, packet soup and tins of fish
  • Sanitiser enabling staff to safely prepare a daily meal for children during lockdown
  • Materials to make masks hand sewn by the Women Sewing Project

A message from Nourish

Thanks to Balule Outreach Trust - Nourish was able to distribute 1000 masks to vulnerable families in need throughout the greater Acornhoek community and surrounding impoverished villages. Children, grannies and families are now able to minimize their risk of catching or transmitting Covid-19 and stay just a little safer and more resilient! Nourish was also able to support 4 women through our sewing initiative, bringing income in and supporting livelihoods at a grassroots level.

Thank you for your support!

This is an ongoing project for at least six months, donations at any time are gratefully received

HALO - Hoedspruit Animal Outreach is a non-profit volunteer organisation dedicated to the upliftment of domestic animal welfare in rural communities around Hoedspruit.

HALO was started to give assistance to domestic animals in rural communities around Hoedspruit, starting with Manoutsa. The majority are dogs with cats, donkeys and goats sometimes seen at Outreaches

HALO educate the community on the care and wellbeing of their dogs. This is supported by donations enabling the team to sterilise, care for the sick and injured dogs, vaccinate and treat the dogs for external and internal parasites.

Jejane shareholders have generously donated to HALO over the last few years enabling dogs to be sterilised and sick dogs to be treated and fed at the holding camp.

On the last Outreach before lockdown the hardworking team & volunteers treated a total of 178 dogs, with 46 of those being puppies!

Two dogs suffering from tick bite fever were admitted and taken back to the existing holding camp. It is easy to treat tick bite fever in the early stages, but if left unattended, tick bite fever can be fatal. One of the most important jobs on any outreach is dipping the dogs, especially at this time of year when tick numbers are incredibly high. Dipping kills any ticks attached to the dog. Prevent symptoms of tick-bite fever are loss of appetite, weight loss, pale gums.
